After Natwest finally reviewed and lowered their overdraft fees, it came to light this week that defaulting with a bank could be far more costly than a payday loan, which is often cited as having exorbitant fees. This is backed up by Money Saving Expert’s recent survey.
The government has issued previous warnings to banks to lower their overdraft fees and charges to consumers, however until now these have been ignored. After the multibillion pound bailout it is frustrating to taxpayers, who partly own these banks, to still be subject to the high and often very confusing charges.
To add insult to injury for the customer, banks do not have to include these sort of fees in their APR calculations for overdrafts.

Well, that’s some statement given how much we all love ‘pigs in blankets’ on Christmas day, but this is serious! Even the government has weighed in, giving advice to people who might be considering purchasing a ‘micro-pig’ as a present this Yule.
These little porkers are bred to be uber-small, unlike their farmyard brethren, and have become popular pets. However, the Con-Lib-Dems have warned that they are still farm animals and can grow much bigger.
Quoting from the Metro article this morning: “Pigs are subject to the same disease control measures and regulations as commercial livestock, says the Environment Department (Defra).”
“Remember that a pig is a farm animal and not a pet for Christmas,” said agriculture minister Jim Paice. “A micro-pig may sound like a popular gift idea but, beware, it can grow too big. I’ve already heard stories about micro-pigs outgrowing their homes.”

Well, I never! What next? However, the www.247Moneybox.com pig is certainly for life and not just for Christmas.

Quoting there from the cheerleader chant in one of our manager’s favourite films, but it couldn’t be more apt as snow wraps the UK in a blanket of chilliness. According to BBC Radio 4 weather this morning winter doesn’t officially start until tomorrow … Sorry?! I didn’t quite catch that?! Anyone who has braved the outdoors today with multiple layers on will agree that winter is well and truly upon us!
According to an article in the Guardian, up to 5.8cm fell in the Midlands and more is set to follow across the entire country. Even the capital is getting a pounding, and to those brave souls who battled into the office today on their bikes, we salute you! Trains, buses and cars all struggled to keep moving, with some rail commuters in Kent left stranded for over 2 hours after points froze!
It’s not all doom and gloom though, as schools across the land have given early Christmas presents to their pupils in the form of snow days.
With the chill expected to last for the rest of the week, it’s time to get that coat, hat and scarf on!
If there is an emergency call on your finances, never fear – that’s where 247Moneybox.com can help with one of our emergency loans to cover you to your next payday.

Wow, that is incredible! The story reported in the Daily Mail today tells how Megan, 7, managed to spend her parent’s cash right under their noses on virtual clothes and furniture for her virtual pet.
The poor parents only realised when they checked their Paypal account and found almost $400 in PetVille transactions. Understandably they are a little miffed, to say the least, and are trying to get some of that refunded.
Quoting from the article: ‘Dawn said: “We’ve spent all that money and got nothing physical to show for it. Megan does ballet and she needed a new tutu this month. I’ve had to buy a second-hand one that doesn’t even fit her properly because of the money we lost on Facebook. But at least she’s dressed her little pet nicely.” ‘
While it’s incredible that you can actually spend that much on a virtual game in that short amount of time, it does highlight some security issues with Paypal and other payment mechanisms.
Here at 247Moneybox.com we take security incredibly seriously. All of our customer details are securely stored, encrypted over a secure SSL connection verified by a third party. This is to give anyone applying for one of our short term loans peace of mind that their cash advance application and all their details are super safe.

In an ideal world every child would receive a brand new Buzz Lightyear or Baby Annabell on Christmas morning, but can struggling UK families really pick up the bill for all these extra luxuries?
Here at 247Moneybox.com we found that the new research published today by Saga and Netmums drew some interesting conclusions. It shows that the huge pressure on mothers to buy expensive gifts for their children is felt more strongly by younger mothers, who are much more likely to overspend than are older parents and those of previous generations.
Interestingly, among parents born in the 1930s, 61% said they typically spent less than £50 in total on Christmas presents for their families, while among the youngest parents, born in the 1990s, only 14% spent less than £50 and 22% admitted to spending more than £200. Moreover, 63% of the younger parents admitted that they go without things for themselves in order to buy their children presents at Christmas.
So, great news for children with young parents – you are statistically more likely to receive an expensive Christmas present!

All of us here at 247Moneybox.com would like to extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes to HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton on the news of their engagement.
Apparently the young prince proposed to the beautiful Miss Middleton while backpacking in Kenya last month, carrying the priceless sapphire ring (once worn by his mother, the late Princess Diana) in his rucksack for three weeks before getting down on one knee!
So expect royal fever to grip our shores once more, with all the pomp and ceremony thrown in and with tourists from all over the world coming to share in the occasion and wish the happy couple well.
Now, the really good news for us Brits is that there will be a national holiday in honour of the wedding (scheduled for spring/summer 2011). What to do on such a day? Well, perhaps you could come to London and join the party. If you’re thinking of coming to the ’smoke’ you’ll need to look into hotels or B & Bs soon, because they’ll be booked up faster than you can say ‘prince and princess’.
Then all you have to do is dust down the old ‘red, white and blue’ and try to remember the second verse to the national anthem!

Here at 247Moneybox.com we are delighted with England’s scintillating 35-18 victory over Australia, which equalled their largest margin of victory against Australia and a first Twickenham win over a Tri-Nations team in four years. Hopefully this landmark victory is a good omen for the forthcoming Ashes series. 1986-87 was the last time England beat Australia in an Ashes series Down Under. Howzat?!
It would be especially gutting for England’s travelling support – the world renowned Barmy Army – if Glenn ‘Pigeon’ McGrath’s age-old prediction of a 5-nil whitewash were to be correct for consecutive tours. While pigeons may fly, pigs certainly don’t!
Ticket packages for the first test at Brisbane are still available. Alternatively you could visit Walkabout who have announced that they will be screening the opening test in over twenty venues across the UK. Be prepared for some first class banter, though, as Pommies are sure to be outnumbered – and you wouldn’t want to be caught at short leg when it’s your round at the bar!

Hurrah for Walmart! It seems that some companies out there are trying to aid the unemployment situation in the UK, as supermarket giant Asda, owned by US firm Walmart, today announced plans to create more than 7,500 jobs in the UK next year.
The UK’s second biggest supermarket chain said it would create all 7,500 jobs through new store openings, expansion of its home shopping service and its recent takeover of Danish supermarket Netto in the UK.
The prime minister David Cameron said only yesterday that the UK would still be a ‘great economic power’ and that ‘the faster we can get our domestic house in order, the more substantial and credible our international impact is going to be’.
With companies such as Asda expanding, and hopefully more jobs becoming available, we here at 247Moneybox.com hope he’s right.

Expect to a get a chilly feeling following news that Scottish and Southern are planning to increase prices by around 9%. The move, set to take place on the 1st of December, coincides with households cranking up their thermostats and will be felt across the entire UK. It is the first company to do so in the last few years and experts are warning that others may follow suit. The average annual heating bill will jump £67 to £782.
Here at www.247Moneybox.com we empathise with the extra burden on household finances that these increases will impose. We suggest that the best way forward when thinking about your gas and electricity bills is to visit a comparison website (such as www.uswitch.com) and finding a gas and electricity profile that suits you. Are you going to be heating 24/7? Or do you spend a lot of time away from the house and only need it in short bursts? These are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself in order to capitalise on a cheaper deal.

While many Britons are struggling to get within sight of, let alone grasp, the first rung on the property ladder, research has shown that a handful of individuals are major players when it comes to real estate. A recent report by Country Life magazine reveals that 0.6% of the population owns 50% of the land.
The top private landowner, the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensbury, has over 240,000 acres in his possession. The Duke of Westminster owns an eye-watering £6 billion worth of real estate, including Belgravia and, Monopoly-must-have, Mayfair. Fancy indeed!
