Get the jump on the Christmas sales. Are you ready for manic Monday?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Well, it’s almost here isn’t it? In fact the Metro reports that Monday is officially going to be manic for online retailers. Our London office is buzzing with the joys of Christmas already, and the famous Oxford Street Christmas lights were switched on on the 4th of November this year! And every single shop now has snowmen and fake snow galore.

Well, this 247Moneybox.com blogger has actually done all his Christmas shopping already this year (we’re very efficient here you know!). Yes the cheer is spreading throughout the office with talk of office parties, afternoon mince pies and a tree.

We know though that this is the time of year where we all feel the pinch on the purse strings. It’s not just the late night shopping, the food, taking time off work and the office parties, but also (lest we forget) the presents. Every music/dvd/toy/gaget shop in the land is offering us the latest and greatest for our loved ones to enjoy. It’s a shopper’s jungle out there!

How did the pig get up there?

Top 10 money saving apps

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

It seems like everyone has the latest generation in mobile phone technology at the moment, so today we thought we would highlight some ways to save you some money by downloading the latest apps for your phone. The Times online has shown a few of the best to take advantage of, and by money saving we’re not just talking about a few pennies here and there, we’re talking up to £30 a week. These are their top 10 suggestions:

1. Vouchercloud: this one is free and it offers you a list of discounts and offers in your area.

2. iBarcode: the idea behind this app is a popular one - simply photograph the barcode of something you want to buy and the app will highlight the same product from different stores.

3. WiFi finder: this will allow you to access the internet faster and will find WiFi is offered for free.

4. 0870: if you need to phone a premium rate telephone number which starts with 0870, 0845 or 0800, this app will convert them to a low cost 01 number instead.

5. Free Parking: self-explanatory - this app will show you the locations of free parking zones in your area. Limited at the moment but this service is set to expand.

6. ATM hunter: if you need cash but dont want to pay the charges on an ATM, this app will take you to somewhere to avoid the charges, which is handy when you’re in unfamiliar surroundings.

7. Petrol prices: this will find the cheapest petrol prices around and is updated weekly.

8. Tesco clubcard: your iPhone can now turn into a clubcard for when you want to use it.

9. UK tax calculator: this app will allow you to work out how much tax you will be paying at the end of the year.

10. Mini mortgage manager: this app will calculate how much you have repaid and how much has gone on interest payments.

Usually we at 247Moneybox.com provide you with a few tips for saving money, however with these tips you may save a significant amount each week.

Take advantage of competitions systematically, and systematically get lucky!

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Here at 247Moneybox.com we thought we might highlight an interesting article from The Telegraph. Have you ever tried entering competitions systematically? The odds should be in your favour to end up winning something, especially if it just means buying a different brand of cereal or buying another type of chocolate bar. Look through the terms and conditions to find loopholes which might allow you to enter more than once. This might prove profitable! Some 25,000 people consider themselves to be serial competitors. You too can get lucky so give it a go! Not the lottery though, that’s just plain stupid!

Making your computer pay for itself

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Have access to the internet? Have a bit of spare time on your hands? Then why not try to earn yourself some money online. Here at 247Moneybox.com we’ve compiled a list of some ways you cOULD possibly earn a few pounds here and there. So when you have time to waste, then at least see if you can get paid while wasting it!

1. Answer questions: some sites offer their customers the chance to answer questions. So if you consider yourself the master of trivial pursuit or the don of your local pub quiz, then get online and get answering. Questions may be texted to you and allow you the chance to earn yourself some money and massage that massive ego of yours at the same time!
2. Do surveys: if you think of yourself as opinionated and someone who doesn’t lose arguments then you might enjoy earning money by completing some online surveys. These can range from political surveys to university students’ surveys. Websites can offer between £1 and £5 for completed surveys.
3. Get paid to just use the internet: many companies like to know customers’ browsing habits, therefore you can now get paid to simply surf the internet. Search for companies which want some market research.
4. Sell your photos: consider yourself as a great photographer? Then maybe someone else might agree, and pay to prove it. Find a site where you might be able to sell some of your photos.
5. Rent your stuff online: going away for a bit? Then why not get your possessions to earn themselves money. Try and find a site which allows you to rent anything from DVD players to furniture to children’s toys.
6. When buying something online, see if you can find the same goods but with cash-back opportunities. Companies are struggling during the recession and will therefore push hard to get you to shop with them.

VAT increase - how to avoid being burnt come January

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

With the latest government budget it looks like we’re all going to be facing VAT at 20% next year. Therefore we at 247Moneybox.com thought we might help you find a way around paying extra for food. Food alone is set to add a lot to the householder’s consumption, and that’s before even considering the impact of the tax rise on petrol, clothes and cars. However there are loopholes, and if you are crafty enough you can seriously reduce the impact of VAT.

VAT is charged differently on different goods; there are the so-called ‘essential foods’, which have zero VAT on them, and then there are the ‘luxury foods’, which, on the other hand, do have the full 20% taxed on them. Therefore our first tip would be to find out the difference and shop accordingly.

But there are inconsistencies in how different foods are categorised, so you may find it possible to keep your regular spending habits and still pay little or zero VAT. Two tips are to shop for wheat-based crisps rather than potato-based ones, and to buy freshly baked goods rather than visiting the takeaway counter, as the latter will set you back due to VAT.

So if you want to avoid or minimise VAT costs, take a little time to find out the differences between the essential and luxury foods and exploit this to your advantage.

247Moneybox.com’s tips for saving money on your phone and mobile bills

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Today we will be looking at how you can save yourself a bundle on your phone and mobile bills; we find our customers can help their finances greatly if they adopt a more prudent structure to their finances in conjunction with one of our payday loans.

So how do you save money on your phone bills? The first thing you must do is work out the type of user you are and try and build a phone profile; do you use your landline a lot or your mobile, what do you mainly use your mobile for, texts or calls?

When you know what kind of user you are then its time to get a tariff and phone line which is adapted to you. In particular it may also be useful to find out what numbers you regularly call, and whether you mostly call other mobiles or landlines. Next, the best idea would be to go to a price comparison website and compare the main phone companies; often these comparison websites allow you to put in personal information about how many calls you make per week and to what phones, which will ensure you get the right service for you.

If you rarely use your phone - perhaps you have one for the internet or to receive calls - then it might be time you thought about getting the lowest rate possible for your type of usage. We’ve found that the best option is to look at the Post Office, as they offer the cheapest line we could find and it’s perfect for those who infrequently use their phone.

Need a little injection of cash to help you cover those urgent bills until your next payday? If so, then it might be time to consider taking out a payday loan. Here at www.247Moneybox.com, we can offer you cash quickly - without the hassle of paperwork, thanks to a simple online application form - so don’t let your finances get out of hand or threaten you with being evicted or losing your utilities for a period of time.

Online shopping, a great way to save money this month

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

For today’s blog we will look at some great ways to save you some money this month. Usually when a customer borrows from us we offer them some advice on how to reduce their expenses, which helps their payday loan be more effective. Here are a few ideas that could save you some money and help your finances get back into the black.

Today’s tip is to go online for your weekly grocery shop. Thousands of people use online shopping to get their regular groceries and you try it - most of the main supermarkets offer online shopping so you won’t have to switch your chain, and if you are on a points system with them you may be able to keep this up too.

Shopping online will make financial sense; the main supermarkets generally give you the option of comparing an item with the other items on that shelf, letting you compare similar products. Sometimes a prompt is given to you to ’see a cheaper alternative’. All the deals in the store should be on the website so you aren’t missing out on any deals. Often by shopping online you can find new deals that you would not find in-store.

Shopping online will allow you to choose the food you need in a relaxing environment: your front room. By not being in-store, you won’t be under any pressure from influential advertising or be swayed by an atmosphere that encourages you to buy more. By buying online you’re more likely to keep to what you need to buy and less likely to pick up those special treats, keeping your cost down. And of course you don’t have to deal with long queues at the check-out!

The only downside would be the delivery fees - these are usually around £4.50 from the major supermarkets, but are usually covered by the savings you make from finding new deals online.

Do you need an injection of cash to sort out your finances this month? If so, perhaps it’s time you thought about taking out a payday loan with us here at www.247Moneybox.com. We offer competitive loans and can tailor a loan solution to cover your urgent cash requirements. So don’t delay further, fill out an application form today!

O2’s new Visa card offers a lesson in financial control

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Do you need to ring-fence your expenses? Then maybe you need a fee-free pre-paid card to help keep tabs on your finances. Times online reports that O2 has announced that it will offer pre-paid Visa cards that can be used online, in store or at cash points and works simply as a substitute to carrying cash. The card can even be claimed by children as young as 13, without their parent’s permission.

The ‘Load and Go’ card will be launched by O2 in partnership with Natwest and comes with no fees. O2 will provide users with balance updates on their phone. The pre-paid card has no overdraft feature as users can only spend what they have loaded onto the card. The card will in effect work as an easier and safe way to carry cash. Parents won’t have to worry about their children carrying or losing cash. The  card uses the Chip and Pin security feature and if the card is stolen it can easily be cancelled.

Pre-paid cards have been very expensive in the past, when banks have tried to charge users for a myriad of actions with the card - Lousie Bond from uSwitch has highlighted some of those charges, including up-front fees to take out the card, monthly fees, withdrawal charges and even a charge for loading the card. Bond sees the O2 cards as a good way to budget monthly expenses and keep tabs of your finances.

The Load and Go card is also designed to introduce children to understanding  financial control, as well as keep them from having to carry cash which could attract crime.

If you have taken all the steps to budget yourself and cut down your expenses but are still struggling to pay the rent or utility bills, then it may be time for you to consider getting yourself a payday loan from us at www.247Moneybox.com. Our team is waiting to advise you and help make a tailored cash loan solution to help you out of a cash-flow crisis until the next paycheque arrives.

Confidence in online shopping and how 24/7Moneybox.com can offer peace of mind

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

According to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), almost 33% of internet users are shunning online shopping as they do not trust the system. The rise of online retailing over recent years has reinvented how we consume goods and services but also has taken fraud and other criminal activities into new territory.

According to the report, the OFT said that 1 in 5 internet users who chose not to shop online did so because they were worried about personal security. 15% of those who refused internet shopping said they did not trust the retailers.

Quoting from a BBC article commenting on the OFT report: ‘If consumers are not confident online, demand will grow at a slower rate. So we must tackle these concerns right now if the online market is to grow at its full potential.’

However, the figures show that consumer confidence is growing compared with three years ago.

Among the people who do shop online, 54% felt it was as safe as shopping in store, compared with 26% in 2006.

‘UK consumers buy almost twice as much over the internet compared to their European neighbours,’ said Consumer Minister Gareth Thomas. ‘It is encouraging that the OFT’s survey shows increasing consumer confidence when buying online - but people still have concerns.’

We here at www.247Moneybox.com take the issue of security extremely seriously. Our site operates over a secure SSL connection and all details are encrypted, providing you with peace of mind when you apply. There are 3 easy steps to getting your payday loan: simply take a few minutes to fill in our online payday loan application form, obtain fast approval and receive your cash loan!
